We’re really proud of our ever-growing Junior setup at SJPC. Its reputation as one of the stronger sections in the county is supported by the medals we’ve won at local and domestic competitions in recent years.
Last summer we implemented a new structure to our classes. Rather than grouping a player by their age / date of birth, we introduced a 4-tier system that moves players around based on their ability and performances. By doing this, he / she is always surrounded by players of a similar level, allowing them to push and challenge each other to be better. As a result of this new system, we’ve created an incredible team atmosphere that runs through the core of SJPC junior section.
Progression is an important part of a players development. To do better and move forwards is one of the key reasons people play sports in the first place. We understand this, and we’re proud to work closely with the senior setup to support our junior players when they come through the pathway and into the senior teams.
As well as implementing the new training system at SJPC, Lydia Powell, our Head Coach, has also been focused on creating a supportive environment for the players. Taken from her own experiences as a player in different environments, we want our players to be able to express themselves whilst feeling confident that the effort they put in will be recognised.
We’re also really proud of the opportunities we’re able to offer our younger players. We have many players competing across the country in domestic circuit tournaments, as well as representing their county. And, as of September 2019, we’ve put a junior team into the senior doubles and mixed league – the first of any Tunbridge Wells club to do so!
This includes our Mens E team (filled with our junior boys) who earned promotion in their first season as a team – congratulations boys!
